Maria performs as a guest vocalist with some of Atlanta's most talented musicians.
This recording is a romantic, yet jazzy blend of acoustic musical flavors! |
| Maria Howells voice radiates with confidence on her latest album, Same Old
Story. Initially released in Japan, but making its way to the States, the
album covers a lot of romantic territory, from the euphoria of new love on
I Got It Bad to its sometimes painful conclusion on Where Do We Go. The
themes are familiar territory in modern R&B, but Howells vocal skills make
it all sound fresh and inviting. She even sprinkles in a surprise; a cover
of Lulus 60s classic To Sir, With Love. Maria Howell may be best
remembered as the vocalist in the choir during that unforgettable scene in
The Color Purple, but music lovers will soon recognize her stunning voice in
a new setting. |
| Following the success of her first CD, "Peace of Mind", released in July, 1999, Howell returned to the United States to record 11 songs for her "Same Old Story" CD. Her latest recordings are an excellent selection of songs that bring out Howell's "same old" fantastic voice but backed with a much newer and professional musical sound. "Let's Get Involved" is a nice "turn up your radio" song, while the title track "Same Old Story" is a soulful slow jam that ranks with the best of any R&B artist. |

This debut release in Japan features Maria Howell's own choice blend of R&B, while at the same time displaying her diverse musical talents. Along with producer, Rodney Shelton, who has many credits to his name, but best known for co-writing the hit song "Kissing You" for Keith Washington on the Qwest Label, Maria wrote all the lyrics, with Rodney collaborating on 2 songs, "You Read My Mind" and "Give Me The Chance". On the title cut "Peace of Mind", she expresses her desire lyrically for inner peace, and "Let Me Love You" allows her to show off a new talent she acquired while spending time in Japan.
